Just got back from trip to Whitby - thanks for all your clues - have found out loads! Also found gravestones to back up findings! Need a few days to sort it all out but will come back to you all - especially Dawn with Foxton connection and have sorted Allinson line down to gravestone - alas a spinster - so we stop there!

But had fantastic help at Whitby Museum from geneology volunteers - great source of local registers, map et al.
Weather was OK and Whitby exceeded all expectations - even stayed in a B&B in Silver Street where Gt Gt Grandfather lived and worked according to Whitby Trade directory!

Also someone left a family tree re Elleringtons / Mortons in Museum - and it is one of our lines - so will try to get in touch with another living relative.
A productive excursion - will keep you posted
