Hi Linda,

Had a look for you and cannot see any Traquair.   There is an entry for Brakenridge which is as follows: -
John Brackenridge late tenant Netherfala 21.11.1761 63, w Mary White Nov 1745 55, s John 18.12.1782 46, s Jas late tenant Toxside 21.4.1800 (68) (w Agnes Wilson 2.5.1767 (3) 0, s Wm Feb 1786 ?4); Jane B d 1774 (2).

The only reference to Dalgleish is as follows: -
Alex Brunton 10.3.1904 98, w Jane Dalgleish 28.2.1867 53, chn Adam 17.12.1847 2y 9m, Janet 31.12.1881 32, Jas 14.9.1896 55; Adam Dalgleish d Craigburn 14.8.1865 81, w Helen Brunton 3.7.1860 76;  Thos Dalgleish d Carrington 27.4.1904 85, w Agnes Scott d Leadburn 1869 51, s Adam 14.5.1875 31.

No reference to any Leadbutter or anything similar.

Hope some of this helps you.

Brina :)

Hi Brina,

Thanks very much for replying.  The SP website has my relatives living in Eddleston and as far as I can tell those names I posted died there. Do you happen to know what cemeteries are or were in the area around 1770-1820?

Linda

Linda, there is only one cemetery at Eddleston but Peebles is only a few miles away.   Of course they may not have had a headstone.   I'll have a look at the Peebles cemetery records and get back to you just in case.

Brina :)

Linda, I have now had a chance to look through all of the pre1855's in Peeblesshire and can find no other references to Traquair or Brackenridge.   Sorry.

Thankyou so much for looking Brina.   :)

Do you happen to know if the local churches kept records of where people were buried,  even if there was no headstone? Would it be the sort of thing I could contact the Peeblesshire Record Office about?  ::)

Linda, maybe the following websites will be of use to you.   I think I read somewhere in a local paper that Borders Family History Society have been recording the gravestones at Eddleston so it might be worth contacting them.

There is also the Heritage Hub at Hawick so I have provided their website link too and they are very helpful if you want to contact them.   Good luck.
