Alexander Lamb/Margaret McConnell 1851 Waterside

I think he would have been single (widowed) in 1861.

I am very new to this.

I am either going blind or an error has been made in the 1861 reference.

The transcription is there but when you access the actual image - he is not shown.  I have checked all 17 pages contained within the piece.  I am therefore unable to check the marital status shown for him to confirm he was a widower

His wife, Margaret, died in 1857, I have a copy of the death certificate, entry.  She died of kidney failure.

What I am trying to do is to confirm that the Alexander H Lamb in Yorkshire in 1861 was a widower.  He gives a different birthplace than the Alexander Lamb found in 1851 and 1871 in Ayrshire

If he is shown as unmarried - it may possibly not be the right Alexander who married Margaret.

Did your Alexander marry Margaret as Alexander Hill Lamb or just Alexander Lamb?   If he married as plain Alexander Lamb - you need his death cert to get his parents

I cant find any marriage certificate for the 2 or any death certificate for Alexander, not in Scotland anyway.

I see both children were with their McConnell grandparents in 1861.

I can't find Alexander in 1861 but he was still alive in 1871 b 1815 Maybole and living alone in Ayr

Can I ask where you found this information?  Im useless at this.

A basic search on Scotlands People Old Parish Registers shows 2 marriages for an Alexander Lamb between 1845 and 1851 in Ayr. 

Have you already viewed and eliminated them?
