I have found a potentially very interesting marriage licence record on the Index to Ireland, Probate Record and Marriage Licence Index, 1270-1858 on Ancestry.
Have also read that all actual records were destroyed in 1922 and all that remains is the Index. Anyone know if this is true or is there a chance some complete records are still intact ?

Most of the original records relating to these Indexes no longer exist, and as far as I know none of the original marriage license details survive.

What are the full details of the entry you are interested in, would it be covered by civil or church records or is it too early ?

Thanks Shane, but it is a Roscommon marriage from 1796 and no sign of it on Rootsireland and also no idea what church it happened in, so just thought the original record might offer parents names or more if there was any chance it had survived.
