Historic Sydney Cemeteries - a little list
« on: Tuesday 22 May 12 11:11 BST (UK) »
I did this list up for myself a while back, when trying to work out where one of my ancestors might have been buried (she died in 1866 and I still haven't found her burial  :-\ )

I recently rediscovered it and thought it might be useful for others, so am posting it here.

Thanks Prue
So handy to have that all in one document instead of having to wrack my brain about them / google etc.
Well done!

Dawn

Just had a look for Northern Suburbs Cemetary, as my FIL is buried there.

It is now called Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens and Cremetorium.

Thanks A
I knew it had changed names but couldn't remember what it is.
I thought it was some name with no reference to Northern Suburbs.
Yes, some of my lot are buried there too.

Not being at all familiar with cemeteries/crematoria in NSW, I had great difficulty a couple of years ago trying to find a burial location for a relative which was noted simply as Northern Suburbs on the death certificate.  After numerous phone calls I discovered there was a cemetery and a crematorium with similar names.

You may find the following helpful.

Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium
is an Australian public trust cemetery situated on 64 hectares of Crown Land owned by the New South Wales Government, administered by the Department of Lands and managed by successive honorary Boards of Trustees as a not for profit community service in perpetuity since the first burial within the grounds in 1922.  The original name was the Northern Suburbs General Cemetery. The name change came in 2004 with the introduction of the Chapels and Crematorium. There is an online deceased search facility.

Ah yes, Cando.  Thanks.  Macquarie Park is the cemetery.
I thought maybe they'd taken that name away too!
