Cynthia,

I would love to obtain anything you have, even memories or speculation that I could use to investigate what might have happened to my grandfather.

If this is the same person - he left his other family when my mother was quite young and thus the relatives I knew did not talk about him; understandable bitterness towards him.

All we know or have pieced together is at:

You can message me via that website.

Thanks to the staff at the Ipswich library, I now have a copy of the Obit from the local Ipswich newspaper for Linnell Foster.  That obit confirms he was my grandfather (correct birth date, birth location, and parents).

We still need to determine if he divorced my grandmother and remarried Mary E Kinsman.

I have found them in the 1940 census:

209 Bay Road, Ipswich, Massachusetts, enumeration district 5-152, image # 55.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0n16/

It must have been lonely out there on Little Neck during the winter.  All the other houses were vacant - presumably summer cottages uninhabited when the census was done in April.

Mary was head of household, age 55, divorced, sewing teacher;  Linnell was listed as a lodger, single, age 69, salesman, wholesale bakery.  they both resided in Ipswich in 1935 but not in the same house.

[If the house is still there, I could probably have looked in the back windows with binoculars from my relative's place].

Thank you Erato.

Cynthia in a previous post said that cottage was built in 1936, so that makes sense.

We have not found him in the 1930 census, yet.  But he was not included with his wife and children in 1930; so he must have moved out prior to April 1930.

I have been indexing (transcribing) the 1940 census for Family Search, mostly in Massachusetts, but have not yet gone back to look for my own relatives.  I have indexed over 18,000 individuals and still going.

The North Shore was our family's favorite summer destinations (we lived in Middlesex county).  My Mom (Linnell's youngest daughter) loved that area.

Thanks again.

Have you tried looking at the 705 Tremont St. location in the 1930 census to see who was living there?  I believe it would be in enumeration district 13-201 or 13-202.
