Hi,

Do you have his CEF Attestation form?

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0n11/

You can view the front and back of the form by selecting the links on this page.   You can also order a complete military file, if you choose.

Perhaps someone who has A..y can check for Agnes and Ara on a passenger list.  Maybe there are other children with them?

If they had more children in Ontario, you might not be able to see their birth records yet.  I think that births after 1913 are still covered by privacy laws.

If all else fails, our 1921 census is going to be released next year.

Also checked Scotland's people, there is a marriage for James Keyland to Agnes Johnson, but have to pay to view ahh!!!  Along with four births, again pay to view :-\

Another avenue to explore -

There are only 4 people with that surname in Canada.    2 are in Toronto :)

Perhaps someone who has A..y can check for Agnes and Ara on a passenger list.  Maybe there are other children with them?

I checked A* but couldn't find any sign of Ara Keyland on any passenger list.  Perhaps the name has been mistranscribed.  All I found for Agnes was a rather puzzling border crossing document:
Border Crossings from Canada to US 1895-1956
Agnes Keyland
24 Jun 1918
Port Huron Michigan
29, Married
Husband Jas. Keyland, Toronto, Ont.
Final Destination Michigan, Detroit
Previously lived in Detroit from 1916-20 May 1918
Going to frd. Jos. Countryman, 603 Mack Ave., Detroit, Mich.
Intending to reside
Birthplace Scotland, Glasgow.
In the column for the question "By whom was the passage paid?" the word criminal is stamped and Agnes's entry to the US was Debarred.

Ara Violet seems to have married again to Glenn Hickey.
Glenn Hickey - Birth 10 June 1928 and died Dec 20 1985 in London, Ontario.

Canada 411 is bringing up the name of a possible daughter - if you wish to make contact.
