Hi. Thanks very much indeed for that. Very fast. It is the correct Arthur & now to find his marriage & his & Mary Ann's forebears. I assume that Arthur m. Mary Hardy & then Mary Ann White.
It looks like there was a gap between children so it is likely that the daughter Mary Ann in the 1861 Census was to Mary Hardy which means Arthur could have remarried c. 1857/9.

Cheers,

Gary.

Hi Gary, What makes you think that the Mary (Note no Ann or A after Mary) is not the same Mary who is on the 1851, looking at the original for the 1861/71 this Mary was born Chesterfield just as the one in 1851, I also note she is plain Mary in 1871?

Hi. You may well be correct re Mary Hardy being Clara's & others mother. Just found a William Arthur Hardy White (f) Arthur who married Alice Sales 9/3/1890 at St Cuthberts, Lytham, Lanc. If the William who was shown as William A H on the 1851 was William Arthur hardy White then it is him. Also Mary Ann who is not on the 1861 Census at which time she would have been 19 then it could be her (f) Arthur, who m. William Smythe 27/1/1873 aged 19 at Weeke near Winchester, Hamps. I know very little of Lancs & Hamps & their relationship to Derby. Mary Hardy's mother was Mary Ann Pollard who m. Joseph Hardy at Collingham 17/6 (my birthday) 1806 & 17/6/1805/6 at Newark upon Trent. I always had doubts about Arthur's wifes maiden name but then again I thought they came from Gloucestershire. Is there any way of finding out if the 2 William A H Whites are the same?.

Cheers,

Gary.

Hi. William Arthur Hardy White . 1890 at St. Cuthbert's, Lytham, Lanc s/o Arthur White Commercial Traveller. William Grocer assistant aged 26, Alice 29. Her father was James but was deceased. They liked to move around so trying to trace back will be a problem. At least with your help I have solved a very long problem. Thanks.

Cheers,

Gary.
