Help finding births and deaths of children who didn't make it
« on: Sunday 03 June 12 16:47 BST (UK) »
On recently looking at the 1911 census for my family -

George Alfred Pickles 1863 Denholme, bradford
Hannah Pickles 1864 Denholme, Bradford

I noticed that they say they have had 12 children, 5 of which have died! I have details of the other 7 and have researched this line back but I didn't know about the other children.

They married in 1885 and the first child Hannah Mary was born just prior to the marriage, the next living child is not born till 1891 then they arrive every couple of years.

How do I find the births and deaths of these children?

try looking for births and deaths for each child on same search on http://freebmd.org.uk/

the ages at death should be on it by then so you can eliminate adults

Assuming the reg district is Bradford or Bradford Y ?  (the marriage was Bradford Y I think) there aren't that many children deaths 85 - 91  .. you won't know which ones belong to your couple without getting certificates unless there are obvious ones from their names .. but ...maybe you could look those deaths up on another site and see if there is a parish burial registration for them which might say daughter or son of on it or if they died a bit after the birth they might have been baptised so perhaps you could find them on those registrations  -  ALWAYS THE OPTIMIST :)

Ju.

I have a transcript of the burial registers for St. Pauls Parish Church, Denholme and I think that I may be able to help you with three of Hannah and George's children.

Did they have a daughter named Beatrice Ellen who died in 1899?  If so then I would be more than happy to supply you with the details which I have found with regard to the other children.

Best Wishes

Hi CJL

I have no way of knowing if they had a daughter called Beatrice Ellen who died in 1899 I'm afraid. The 1891 census is the first one since the marriage and the parents are on that living together but with no children (mistranscribed as Pichler) Thier daughter Mary Hannah born 1884 is staying with her aunt at the time
I would be very interested to find details of the other children if you think you can do that I would be very grateful,

Many thanks,
Ju

Ju,

Beatrice Ellen may be one of the children who you have missing.  On the 1891 census she is residing with her Grandmother Ellen Shaw born 1826 in Luddenden.  Is this Hannah's mother?

Did Hannah die in 1925 and Alfred George die in 1930?

Best Wishes
