Now I see what you mean. The 1881 and 1891 are both correct as far as transcribing them goes ?

John is 37 in 1891 and only 21 in 1881. But 38 in 1901 ?

I know you've just said that - but it's disbelief that's made me repeat it ?

As for the Welsh returns, I would advise you to post a query in Wales. It looks like a minefield because there's more than one possibility. It would be best if someone who was more familiar with the area had a look for you.

The registration I mentioned was the only possible one for his son Edward. The census returns claim all the other children were born in either Durham or Yorkshire. According to the 1881/1891 he was their only Welsh born child.

There are several people in 1871 who could be John Barry, that's the problem, Dave.

I thought if someone local knew the area, it might help !
