Pembery/Pembrey Family Cardiff
« on: Tuesday 05 June 12 22:00 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the family tree on my maternal grandmother's side. their surname was Pembery but there is some controversy over the spelling. M grandmother was Grace Veronica and became a Gray by marriage. Her father was Robert Pembery and her mother was Harriet Maud Williams. I am trying to trace what happened to my grandmother's siblings and where the family name can be traced back to.

Thank you for your help. Its much appreciated. I will seek to follow this up. I had an idea that the family came from London but no concrete evidence.

Hi - yes looking further back the family seem to be in Lambeth in 1871. You have three generations of Robert Edwins

1898 b cardiff, father of grace
1893 b Lambeth, married Harriet
1848 b Lambeth, married Elizabeth

1848 Robert has father Richard, a waiter, mother Jane, both born Westminster. This Robert is also a decorater, although some of his brothers are in boat building. There is another Pembery two doors down who is also a decorator.

Hi there
I'm not sure whether the poster of this question is still active, but Grace Pembery was my gran's little sister.
My gran was Gladys Maud Pembery and she married William George Radford in 1918.
I guess that this makes you a second cousin and our mothers cousins.

Harriet Maud Roselle Williams was sister to my great grandmother born in Cardiff 21 Jan 1874. Parents Thomas J Williams 1847 -1911, born in Pembrokeshire, and Jane Thomas 1845 - 1924, born in Vale of Glamorgan. She had a couple of interesting relatives, her brother Daniel John Williams who was a publican and horse breaker in Cowbridge and ran the Lamb & Flag pub in Wick (Vale of Glamorgan). The other interesting character is a nephew, son of her brother Benjamin, Hubert H Williams 1895 - 2002. He was the last surviving member of the Royal Flying Corp of WWI. Chapter in book "Wales and the First Air War 1914-1918" , page 315-317 "The last airman of the great war" he also appeared in a series World War One in Colour  https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3611891/
