Welcome to RootsChat :)

Do you have William in any of the censuses?

I have been on a couple of sites but no luck so far. Anything else you know about William may help to locate him.  Wife, children etc.

1871 RG10/1440/66/32
59 High street Oxford
William G Kay 47 Married Lodger miniature painter and ? born London
John (Jane?) Kay 43  Lodger Married no occ. London
George Kay 9 London
Mary A Kay 5 Kensington

Could your ggrandmother have been registered with the name Mary Ann but used Annie later n life?
If this is your George and Annie if she spent most of her young life in Oxfordshire she may have thought she was born there.

A possibility?
I can't find this one back in 1871. (but that may just be my eyes :) Nor can I find a birth for an Ann Kay 1863 - 1867 on FreeBMD in Oxfrodshire.

1881 RG11/1509/16/6
William Fennemore and family. A farmer of 324 acres.
Ann Kay 17 general domestic servant born Balscote Oxfordshire

Do you actually have your ggran on any census?

Re: 1871 entry above
Quote
John Kay 43 Single Lodger Married no occ. London

The image shows the entry as a married female and although the christian name is unclear - it could possibly be Jane

William G Kay is shown as married

As he is a widower in 1881 - this is probably his wife's death

thank you guys your doing a great job. yes your right i think she is born in 1866 yet shows up in 1865 nov under the name of mary anne kay then dropped the mary. i have found her being born in brentford.   her father william g kay had a wife called jane which i thought read john so its all making sense now.  how can i get back to 1924 to trace william in the channel islands, any ideas would be much appreciated

regards

andy.
