What car is this please?
« on: Wednesday 20 June 12 15:07 BST (UK) »
This photo was taken early in 1917 in Northern NSW of a newly acquired car.
Can anyone tell what make/ model it is?

I believe it's a T-Model Ford ... if you ask Professor Google for images of the 1917 T-model, you'll find plenty of pix that are almost identical.   ;)

*(PS - they were doing well, to get a 1917 model Ford early in 1917, in northern NSW!)*
I live in Sydney, Australia, and I'm researching: Powell, Tatham, Dunbar, Dixon, Mackwood, Kinnear, Mitchell, Morgan, Delves, & Anderson

... except that's not a Ford badge on the radiator. To me it looks like a Willys-Overland Tourer, but I can't find a photo of a model with that particular arrangement of louvres behind the front wheel. They either have louvres the full length of the hood or none at all.

Hi Deb,
Thank you for your observations. I agree, it does look rather similar to a T-Model, but I haven't found a picture of one which is exactly the same as this, although many are fairly similar.

I thought it looked a bit like a Willys Overland, too, Adrian, but as you have observed, the vents on the side are not the same. Thank you for your interest.  It looks like quite a grand car for its day.   The little chap in the front seat would have known, what it was, for sure.

The Badge looks like a Willy's. The radiator cap looks like a Willy's. Willy's sold cars in Australia and New Zealand but how one could get a 1917 Model with both Australia and America involved in a major war is another question. Look up Willy's - Wikpedia. Wikipedia has a 1923 model which when enlarged looks like the front of the Australian Willy's. There are associations for Willy's in Australia.

It has a different front suspension to the model T. Also the engine bonnet is not significantly smaller than the body of the car like the model T.
