McKie Family - Possibly Leeds around 1828
« on: Friday 22 June 12 10:09 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any references to a family of this name. I have references to a Stephen McKie on the Sunderland census for 1851 and 1861 which claim he was born in Leeds. From his marriage certificate, his father was William. The name is sometimes spelt McKey, Makay, Mackey ... . I should like to find any mention of the name so that I can follow up . I have only found a reference to an Anne McKie buried at Lythe (North Riding??) perhaps 1837. Can anyone give me any suggestions, neither Stephen nor his father William come up in any other Ancestry searches.

Was wondering if the Stephen McKie in these posts is married to Isabella Brown and if anyone has more information about him and his parents?

Belatedly replying to your post. I believe that this Stephen McKie (my maternal great great grandfather) was married to Isabella Brown and had a son called Thomas. He lived in Sunderland but so far I have not been able to trace him back to Leeds, his place of birth stated on the 1851 Census. I would love to know more.

It's the same man, son Thomas and daughter Edith - he is my maternal great, great, great grandfather through Edith.  It''s interesting that he just disappears.
