« on: Monday 25 June 12 07:06 BST (UK) »
Robert G. ROBERTS
gender:    Male
birth:    25 Aug 1847
North Wales
death:    15 Oct 1899
Gunnison, Sanpete, UT

Parents were William and Elizabeth - but little else known.

My map of North Wales shows quite a few options - any help on narrowing the search is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Stan Roberts

Hi Stan

Welcome to Rootschat

Not much to go on.  Where was the information from that he was born 25 Aug 1847?   Have you got Roberts marriage certificate which will confirm the fathers name?  Have you found him in any censuses?

Tombstone? Has him listed as "Robert C. Roberts":
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0o1q/

With the right middle initial and some information on the rest of his family, I found this history book which gives the names of the parents:
http://archive.org/stream/historyofsanpete00ogde#page/466/mode/2up

As well as quite a lot of info about his movements.
Arrived into the US in 1869 (California)
Four years in Dutch Flat
Three years in Virginia City, Nevada
lived in Mono Co, California, then Bellevue, Idaho, before coming to Gunnison in 1881.
Married Mar 29, 1881 in Salt Lake City.

He should have been registered in September quarter, or maybe Dec of 1847 at a pinch; but it does not appear that he is listed - at least, not with the middle initial.  Plenty of plain Robert Roberts.

Someone has this as his birth registration (note two years out)

Name: Robert Gryffin Roberts
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1849
Registration district: St Asaph
Inferred County: Denbighshire, Flintshire
Volume: 27
Page: 185

and him marrying Elizabeth Christensen in 1881 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

As said above I think you need to get the marriage certificate to see what it says. The date of birth could easily be wrong and the G corrupted to a C. As he is on the California Voter registrations also worth checking that.

Do you know what the G is meant to stand for ?
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Thanks!  I'll go to work on the marriage certificate.  Some family members have opinions on the Initial - but nothing without the next line up on the tree.  I knew my Great Grandpa pretty well - I wish that the Family history would have been a little bigger topic of conversation now...:)  Late 1800s I'm guessing focus was more about the farm, the horses, and more work.  He did lay some pretty good foundation for me to be able to sit and type online while drinking a Coke!
