hi tarmacadall...
cornelius (patrick) was listed as a labourer on his marriage cert.

his address on marriage cert was avondale house, harolds cross rd. dublin...(not far from clanbrassil st where he lived most of his life and where his family was born, including my father in 1914 which i have his birth cert).im guessing that avondale house may have been some sort of lodging house..what puzzles me who looked after his children, while he was at work.?? .

I have never found any records on census forms for him.

the change of birth date was through contact yesterday with his last living son (my uncle) who is now nearly 78..he confrimed that his dad was from castlecomer in kilkenny, this was alway my believe as my late father also told us this.
my uncle also told me that there was a doyle family connection to a 'harness shop' in kilkenny up as far as possibly the 1970s..

this is very confusing story as it was believed that cornelius had come to dublin after a fire had killed his wife and he was left with kathleen and jack who was thought to have been born the year corneluis was married..??...then brought back to kilkenny to be raised by family,(which side we havent a clue about)

im thinking of visting archives to try to find record of a birth or baptism of kathleen or jack to a cornelius alias patrick doyle.

i found it strange he his marriage cert had patrick doyle (no mention of cornelius)
its quite possible that the cert reads widower as it is very blurred.

sorry for the unclear nature of my previous post...there seems to be skeltons in the closet.

This MIGHT be a possibilty for Patrick

patrick doyle 1911 kilkenny /

This one is listed as a widower which he would have been, a labourer (which he said on his marriage cert), and with a son called John (Jack is the old nickname for John)

What do you think ?

tara that lead does look very promising, i never thought of jack as also been known as john...which i should have as my g/f on mothers side was also john alias jack.!
patricks (cornelius)d.o.b also wouldnt be far off ...and young jacks age would probably be right, id assume that kathleen may have been left in care of family before been brought to dublin circa 1912.
its confirmed by family that she was brought back to kilkenny when patrick remarried in 1912...dont know anything about jack?
jacks birthdate of 1907 at least gives us a lead on what year his mother was killed..obviously it was the time scale of 1907-1911.

thanks for a great bit of detective work.

Just another possible find for you.....

Patrick had a daughter called Kathleen, but maybe this was her middle name ???

I have found what I think is a good possibility for her but with the name Mary

mary doyle 1911

Look where she was living...........................where her possible father ended up the following year !!!

Could this be the person who you were wondering looked after the young children ???

What do you think ?

Tara

The Johanna in 1911..............

I think this is her in 1901

johanna doyle 1901

In 1901 she is living at the EXACT same address that Patrick was in 1911 !

SOOO her father's name was Oliver which is a relatively rare name and should be easier to trace etc

Have you found Margaret Hayes yet ?

What was her father's name and occupation on her marriage cert ?

I can only see the one possibility on the 1901 census

possible margaret hayes 1901

Could this be her in 1911

possible margaret hayes 1911

It's close to where she married Patrick !
