Help please "Clare Castle"
« on: Wednesday 27 June 12 04:31 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I have information from family records for Ann Rochford with parents Michael and Mary Rochford with Ann Rochford supposedly born in Clare Castle, Ireland.
Ann Rochford married in Australia to a James McCulloch in 1886.

I have searched the Internet and I cannot find "Clare Castle" in the records and was hoping someone can clarify for me exactly where that was. I assume somewhere in County Clare?

Unfortunately the research was done some years ago and does not provide any sources. Also the person who did the research has passed away.

Clarecastle is about 4km south of Ennis.

On older maps it's shown as the town of Clare. See :

   Clare, town  (Lewis, 1837)

   Ennis to Clarecastle  (Google maps)

thanks Shane

Great to be able to see it on a map. One of the descendants her in Oz is visiting Ireland in a couple of months time so was hoping to go there if time permitted. Now that we know exactly where it is she can make plans.
