Maria Hiscock, Southampton
« on: Friday 29 June 12 01:32 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on Maria Hiscock's family before she married Henry Macey.  I have lots of information on Henry's ancestry and Maria & Henry's descendants, but nothing on Maria's Hiscock's ancestry.

I think Maria was born in 1808 in Southampton.  She married 3 Jun 1830 in Lyndhurst, Hampshire.  I believe she died 14 Jul 1866 in Southampton.

If anyone has info on her parents, siblings, etc., I would be grateful.

keyboard86,

Thanks so much for your reply & information.  I have that her husband Henry Macey was born in Sep 1798, Lyndhurst, Hampshire. I don't know if that is Sep quarter or Sep.  Would you have a bap for Henry?

I appreciate your help

Th quarters only bcome significant after civil registration began in 1837 when births, marriages and deaths were recorded and bound into 3-monthly volumes.

A Henry Macey was born on 1st October and baptised 6th November 1795 at Lymington, son of James & Mary.

bearkat,

Thanks so much for the birth and bap info for Henry.  I don't know if this is the same Henry because I had his birth as Sept 1798 in Lyndhurst.  I will ask my source for that where he obtained the Sept 1798 date

annegar,

Not sure if you know much about William Hiscock's background, but in July 1832, an advert appeared in the Hampshire Advertiser for the sale of a drapers & Mens clothing shop at 178, on the west side of the  High Street, Southampton, owned by a William Hiscock. There is a description of the premises and shop, and the reason for sale is that the owner was bankrupt. Whether this is the husband of Sarah as above & father of Maria might be evident from the occupation of the father, which usually appeared in the baptism record.

Hi Tom,

That is so interesting.  I know nothing about the Hiscock family, only that Maria Hiscock married Henry.  It is great to get anything that could be related to her parents or siblings.

Thanks,

HI, just to let you know re William Hiscock, living a few doors away on the 1841 from Henry Macey and Maria and family in 1841, is a William Hiscock aged 60 occ Bricklayer, it looks like Maria had a possible sister Eliza b c 1815 who is married to a William Withers, she and new husband are on same page as the William above HO107/417/ 6/18/ 32 in 1851 William and Eliza Withers show a William Hiscock aged 14 as a son Census ref HO107/1669/630/11
