"Ballangeich" - Passenger Lists

Hi all

I am trying to locate two passenger listings for a ship named "Ballangeich".

The ship made two trips to Melbourne:

1.  Departed Plymouth 25 May 1851 - Arrived Melbourne 20 August 1851
2.  Departed Southampton 21 August 1852 - Arrived Melbourne 7 December 1852

I have checked on PROV online, Argus newspaper, Log of Logs, google search, ancestry, etc but have had no luck in finding the actual passenger lists.

The passenger name that I am looking for is KEARNEY (like everything, has various spellings).  In particular I am looking for a JAMES KEARNEY and hopefully a brother WILLIAM KEARNEY.

Hopefully someone may have a lead for me.

haven,t been able to find any direct info for you but from a google search did find this which is a piece carried by the times newspaper about the emigration of folk on ballangeich in 1852 it,s only a mention but if you can ask if they have archive records for the whole piece you may gain more from it .

I had a look on Ancestry, but the only voyage which seems to be listed is the one which arrived in December 1852 but no Kearneys (or variants) listed.

Ship: 'Ballengeich' (note spelling variant)
Departure Port: Southampton
Arrival Port: Port Phillip Bay, Australia

Thank you for your help.  It's always in the "spelling" isn't it!

My mystery now is to find the 1851 record which seems the difficult one to find.  Maybe it is just a matter of me scrolling through all the fiche.

I found a passenger list for 1851 on the Trove Online Digitised Newspapers.
The Ballengeich left Plymouth 25th May 1851 and arrived in Melbourne 20th August 1851. It was published in The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957)  Thu 21 Aug 1851  Page 2
There is a passenger list on the following website:

The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954) - Mon 1 Sep 1851 - Page 2 - SHIPS' MAILS, says there were 112 intermediate passenger plus the cabin passengers. I have counted 84 adults (husbands & wives) but the number of children are not listed.
The Ballengeich then sailed for Adelaide on 29th August arriving in Adelaide 22nd September 1851.

James V used to travel about Scotland in disguise calling himself the Gudeman of Ballengeich, he was almost murdered by thieves at Crammond & was rescued by Jock Howieson to whom the king made a grant of land in gratitude!
