Women at War WW1 and WW2
« on: Sunday 01 July 12 01:04 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate photographs of women carrying wartime occupations - preferably copyright free - to use in an educational/informational display.  The only thing I have plenty of are WW2 Land Army photos.  WW1 pictures are particularly scarce.

Can any one help by pointing me to a website or any other ideas?

Christine

all i can think of is libraries with photo archives if you want say workers in munitions or aircraft factories that sort of thing then look to see where those things were made and then look for local libraries , the midlands i would say is a fair bet for searching , but others may well have better knowledge .

if you go on the images search of google and put in the search "women in ww1" then you get lots of images from an open source

If you need these just for educational purposes rather than publication, I have lots of WW1 nurse images of various types - some are from the IWM, but those can be used as long as not for publication.  Email me via the contact page on my website here:

Thanks for the advice, all.

You've given me plenty to work on.

Sue, I'll be in touch to explain what I'm doing.
