ANTCLIFF family Notts

Hi all.
I have searched for years, and am unable to trace my Antcliff family further back than my GG Grandad, John Henry Antcliff b 1845ish, somewhere in Notts. At time of marriage to Sarah Wilson in 1864 he resided in Elkesley. His marriage cert states that his father is named John Antcliff.
1871 Census states that a Sarah Antcliff 18 yrs was boarding with the family. I have now confirmed through marriage cert that she is infact his sister, and her father also named John Antcliff. I have traced a family with the following details:
1861 census: 2471 folio 34, pg 3
Top Street, East Markham
Sarah Antcliff Widow aged 80
Eliza Antcliff  aged 38 unmarried?
Sarah Antcliff aged 7yrs Grand daughter

1851 census:
Sarah  Antcliff Head 71 yrs Pauper (Nurse)
Elizabeth Antcliff aged 29 yrs, dressmaker
John  Antcliff aged 6 Grandson
Mary Antcliff aged 2 yrs Grand daughter
From marriage certs I have established that John from 1851 census could be the missing link, ie my ggg grandad, who was either a Tailor, Sailor or Jailor  according to marriage cert.

I cannot find evidence of this man, or his family.
Can anyone out there help?

Am looking to come down to Nottinghamshire Archives to search parish records etc

So have I got this right ? Are you saying that John in 1851 census is John Henry born 1845 ish who's father was also John who was a Tailor, Sailor or Jailer ?

It is possible John Arncliffe doesnt exist and John Henry/Sarah/Mary are all the illeg Children of Elizabeth Anticliff.

1851 under Anciffe;  Sarah is Unm, Elizabeth Unm and John/Mary Grandchildren of Sarah.

I did wonder myself if the children were illegitmate, as Sarah's (1853) birth certificate has no mention of fathers details....

Oh where do I go from here, any advise?

I have a very good Antcliffe tree, I will do some checking and get back to you on this.
Sarah A was born 28 June 1781 and baptised 9 July 1781 in East Markham. She was buried 16 Nov 1862 never having married. She was my 3rd cousin 5x removed!!

Info I have on Sarah Antcliff 1781 is that she married a William Antcliff....so confusing!

Family legend has it that our Antcliff family originated in NORWAY..but somehow I cant see this...

I am actually a direct decendant too....my name being Sara Antcliff, our branch came from Notts in 1870's to reside in Sheffield, and lots of family still remain live there.

If its the same Sarah Antcliff, then she is my GGGG Grandma!

Ok, is this the Sheffield branch that married an Ephraim Billam??

I have Sarah as being the daughter of Luke A and Mary Johnson who married 18 Dec 1780 in East Markham. They had 2 other daughters Jane 1783 and Frances 1786.

Luke was baptised 17 Mar 1747 in Askham and was buried 17 June 1814 in E M
He was the son of Thomas A and Mary Cook who also married in Askham 11 June 1747.
If we can work out if this is the correct line, I can go back another 4 generations from Thomas.
