1 Pilot Terrace Gloucester

I have an address of a bride of 1 Pilot Terrace Southgate St Gloucester on a marriage certificate in 1907. However I can not find any relatives living there and it seems to be a Boarding House.

I feel that it was an address of 'convenience' as they got married a year after their first child was born.

Can anyone tell me anything about that address please.

In 1911, 1 Pilot Terrace, Southgate Street, Gloucester was occupied by John CHISWELL occupation "Storeman Postal Telegraphs", a housekeeper and three boarders.

In 1901, it was occupied by Maria MOYLE, occupation "none" and two female  boarders.

So yes, I would guess it was a lodging house of some kind, by the look of it. It's shown as being next door to the Old Pilot Inn, Southgate Street in 1901 (James Berry, publican).

Confirms what I thought.

Two interesting web sites - especially as the people getting married were connected with the pub trade - unfortunately I can not find anything on them but will have better look tomorrow.

Frank Webb, 1 Pilot Terrace, Southgate-street, admitted riding a bicycle without a light near Over Bridge on the night of September 19th- PC Holmes stated the circumstances and defendant was fined 2s 6d.

Although this has nothing to do with my family I am researching it is really interesting. A bit of history & sign of the times.

The two family surnames I am looking for a connection with Pilot Terrace are Rees and Thomas.
Having said this has nothing to do with the family I will just look him up as you never know one of their sisters might be married to him!
