Frederick HAMBRIDGE, Born c1835, Yeovil
« on: Wednesday 04 July 12 13:50 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Frederick HAMBRIDGE, parents George and Mary (nee Toy), was transferred from Parkhurst Prison on 11/02/1853 to Portsmouth Prison, and although his original sentence on 16/10/1849 had indicated transportation for 7 years that was never carried out.   Subsequent criminal records do not show that he re-offended.

In fact he appears "to vanish" after 11/02/1853 and I wonder if anyone can possibly help.

Regards

Tony Cocks

He does seem pretty elusive  ??? Is this him on 1841c?

HO107 P 958 Book: 8 Civil Parish Yeovil Somerset; ED 4 F 66 Page33
George Hambridge 42 (1799) Glover
Henry 11
Frederick 8
all born Somerset

Do you have him on any census after 1841?
Do you know his occupation?

There are a number of public trees on ancestry
parents George Hambridge & Mary Toy
sister Eliza b1839 married William Madiment she died 1920 New York
brother Henry (Charles Henry b1829) married Caroline Ricks he died 1915 New York
sister Mary Ann b1841 married Eli Garrett she stayed Yeovil
sister Melina b1831
nothing more about Frederick b1835 whereabouts other than 1841c & Criminal Register 11 Jan 1847

Maybe worth checking to see if he joined siblings in New York

I wonder if father George went to New York  :-\

residence 1860 (from family search)
George Hambridge age 61 (1799) birthplace England
residence  New York
ward: 4th District In The 11th Ward

there's also a Caroline Hambridge age 32 resident in the same district/ward as George

this could be George's son (Charles) Henry & wife Caroline

Henry Hambridge age 31 (1829) birthplace Jeoveel England
Caroline Hambridge age 28 (1832) birthplace Jeoveel England
residence:, Fulton, New York
ward:The Town Of Johnstown

do you think birth place Jeovell England is Yeovil England?

Eliza Madiment's immigration date given as 1880

I tried the "Family Tree" entries on Ancestry but, sadly, they all have the same problem, that is, no information after the 1841 England Census.   He is, of course, on the 1851 England Census as an inmate at Parkhurst Prison.

There might be some advantage in looking at US records, except my Ancestry subscription does not extend that far!!

Ah well, I see a brickwall looming

Hello!

My 4th great grandfather is George Hambridge, father of Henry Charles of Yeovil.  I have found the 1841 English census of George living with his sons Henry and Frederick, but I don't have records of George's wife.  I also don't know about any additional children.

(George's son Henry Charles married Caroline Ricks.  Their son Charles Henry married Jane Cole and they had Douglas Alfred Hambridge, my great grandfather.)

In relation to George Hambridge, I don't know if Eliza and Mary A. listed in a 1851 census are the siblings of Henry and Frederick (from 1841 census).  Could the boys have moved out on their own by then and Mary was George's second wife?

Do you have any more information on George's family?  If Mary is the mother of Henry and Frederick, where was she in 1841?

Perhaps if you could help me with more information about George, something might come to light about Frederick.

Any help would be appreciated!  :)

Good Morning Cynthia,

Sadly I have not been able to unearth any meaningful information for my research about Frederick HAMBRIDGE after the 1841 Census, other than the reference to him in the 1851 version when he was in prison.   Consequently I have more or less given up the search.

I am sorry that this is the extent of my help, although Ladyhawk appears to have some reliable details about the family which could be worthwhile investigating.   I can only wish you good luck in your search.

For now,

Tony

Hi,
I'm new here and I can't PM message because I think I've got to do three posts first, or something like that. So this is my second post. I'm friends with the Hambridge family you all are looking for here in the USA so PM message me.

BAC3,
Thank you for reply.

Frederick Hambridge born 1892 might be grandson or grand nephew if Frederick Hambridge born 1835?
