lookup offer - Various sources
« on: Monday 23 May 05 14:31 BST (UK) »
I have access to many resources for a limited time period - until this Wednesday.

Some of the sources that I can check include;

1841 Hertfordshire Census.
1871 Hertfordshire Census
Marriage Licence Allegations
Index of Wills

If you would like a request, please give as much information as possible.

Ann

Hi Ann,

Could you see if James Partington was an Apprentice/member of "The Original Society of Paper Makers"

He was born in Radcliffe, Lancashire in 1750 - I know his son and grandson were members later - but it has not been index until 1861.

Any Partingtons in that Union would probably be mine!!

Thanks for asking

Cheers

Keith

When you have a moment, would you be kind enough to see if you can find in 'Boyd's London Burials Index 1538 - 1872' any record of the burial of:

David Polhill GREENE

He died on 5th January 1854 (around 70 years of age) in Somers Town, St Pancras. At the time of his death, he was described as 'Verger to Somers Chapel' but was also known to have been an Artist.

I have tried to establish where he was buried but - so far - without success.

Many thanks

Lyn S

Hi Keith,

Info is as follows for London Apprenticeship Abstracts  1442-1850:  (there were many distillers, but as they are abviously not paper makers I left them out - however, if you want the list let me know).

1611  Partington Simon, son of George, London, yeoman (deceased), to Robert Bareburre, 25 Nov 1611, Longbowstringmakers' Company

1657  Partington Nathan, son of ...rd, citizen and dyer, to Robert Fetkin, 11 Dec 1657, Cooks' Company

1728 turned over to Sandys Jones], Upholders' Company

1744  Partington Thomas, son of John, St Stephen Coleman St., London, clerk, to James Armstrong, 6 Feb 1743/4, Glovers' Company

As for the Great Britain Apprenticeships, there are several Partington's but none of them papermakers with the name James or from Lancs.

Sorry

Thanks for looking Ann,

Pity I don't think any of them are mine - yet!

But I do fancy the first one - Longbowstring Makers Company - now that's sounds a useful company - wonder if they make musical instruments now??!!

Cheers

Hi Lyn S,

Sorry nothing in Boyds.  I also checked the site www.familyhistoryonline.co.uk (it only has some transcribed burials) again there was nothing.

Ann,
You might look through the county baords to see if anyone is chasing 1841 for
Cambs, Devon, Glouc, Essex, Suffolk, all of which seem to be on that site.

Personally could you have a look for a William Pan(n)ifer, b Suffolk  probably 5y-old or so.

Thanks,
Pauline

Hi Pauline,

It was my intention to add more counties/post offer, but the rugrats came home from school and I was booted off the computer, now I'm just trying to catch up with the 'personal email'  and normal post requests.

Anyway hope this helps,

Hi Ann

Thank you for your generous offer.

I note that there are a few entries on the Apprentice datasets for "John Bradd", and wondered if they could help me track down  mine.  (He is on the Isle of Wight in the 1820/30s but in Hertfordshire in the 1850s).  He appears to have been working as a currier (leather worker) - although 'carrier' and 'courier' are possibilities - or that may be a non-local accent when he was giving his occupation to the Parish Clerk ;D

His date of birth would have been around 1800/1810?

Thanks
