Could it be this one?

 CARR, John
 Sculcoates  Yorkshire
 1893 Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec

On the same page Emma Bond or Boud (it is down as both) on Freebmd

Hi and thanks for such a fast response  -  I'm new to all of this searching and trying to get an understanding on how it all links up  - so  the couple getting married would each be listed on the same page but under their own surnames?  And would Sculcoates be the central registration office for the Holderness area.     I'm not sure if this is him  because of the missing William, but I'll take a look... thank you.

Not sure but it says this:  Abolished : 1.4.1937 (to become part of Hull and Holderness registration districts).

I did a search for a John Carr to an Emma between 1890 and 1900 and they were the only ones I could see that fitted. No John William Carr as far as I can see.

I've tracked them through the 1901 and 1911 census records, they moved between Hornsea, Hull, Aldborough and Preston - from the birth records of their children.   Isn't it a shame they didn't have the question of maiden name on the census form next to place of birth.

Certainly is, it would make things so much easier. The only other thing you can do is send for one of the children's birth certificates, that would give you Emma's maiden name so you could see if it is the correct marriage.

Ha!  Great minds and all that ... I just did a search under my grandmothers birth details on Yorkshire BMD she pops up along with one of her brothers under Hull Sub district of Drypool only it's not available on line to order through Hull Council - would you know if I can order a copy of her birth certificate through UK national archive on line if I were to quote their reference number?

Find the birth on Freebmd and that will give you the details and reference number.  http://www.freebmd.org.uk

Then order it from the General Register Office  http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/  dont order it from one of the subscription sites as they are far more expensive.
