Thank you for your warm welcome & pls call me Nic..

Thomas Procter b 1842 in Greatham,Co. Durham...Elizabeth Lane Ross b. 1848 (i think..on 1861 census it states she was 13 also states she was born Greatham also, but I also read somewhere else she was born Stockton) this perhaps could be to do with the boundaries at the time.

Alas no I do not have their marriage cert. They were married in 1864 in Greatham. The church I presume  was St John the Baptist,

Im so curious.. where do I go to find the names of my G-G Grandfathers parents? Thanks in anticipation.
Nic

This looks like it could be your Thomas' birth reg.  be careful with variations in spelling. Marriage says Proctor birth says Procter. There is a birth Proctor but it is in March 1841 so a little early and in the wrong area.

When ordering certs from the GRO use the exact spellings and details as are on FreeBMD

Births Mar 1/4 1842
Thomas  Procter  Stockton &c  vol 24  page 218

Stockton &c registration district includes Greatham

The 61 census has Elizabeth Ross born c1848 and the 71 census has Elizabeth Proctor born 1841 .. checking the BMDs  the most likely seems to be

Ross    Elizabeth Jane        Stockton    24   221   December Quarter 1846
as Stockton includes the Greatham area

Thank you for your advice..

So I presume to locate the mother & father of Thomas Procter is to assume his birth year is 20 years earlier and then to input the name Procter/Proctor plus the year 1841 into the BMD search engine??
