Baker Street, Hertford.
« on: Saturday 14 July 12 18:02 BST (UK) »
I have read recently that Baker Street in Hertford was named after a mayor of Hertford in the 1930s. Does anyone know what the name of this street was before that please??

Many thanks.

Hi

All that I can add is that the
1881 OS map does not show the road layout (or names)
1884 OS map shows the road layout (no names)
1898 OS map shows it as Baker Street and the road layout . . . . .

Thank you for that Ray. It seems the Discover Hertford site, or at least a posting on the site is wrong. I would have been a bit surprised if the name was of 1930s origin but you have kindly confirmed it for me. Many thanks.
