Anthony Ayto is given as being born in 1761, at North Collingham, he was also known as Hayto and Eatough, I assume this was becuase the transcribers of the period wrote down names as they sounded to them, as very few people could read or write.....Del.

John Eatough married Phyllis Stevenett on 17 Feb. 1747, but I cannot find the marriage in the Nottinghamshire parish registers, he died in 1779 at North Collingham, Phyllis's parents marriage IS in the parish registers, Richard Stevenett married Ann Challens on 13 July 1712, at North Collingham.......Del.

Hi Del

The earliest record of that name, I can find in Langford, is Richard Eatto who married Mary Donson 23.1.1772.  Richard was buried 2.5. 1842 aged 92 which would put his birth c 1750, so could be Anthony's brother.  Richard & Mary also named one of their children Anthony baptised 20.3. 1785.

I also found this marriage that may fit in somewhere

Anthony Etough aged 40 wid, officer of excise, married Mary Stevens, 35, wid at St Marys, Nottingham 2.11.1746.

Hi Sunflower, thanks for the reply, From information from someone else, I think that the Richard Eato who died aged 92, hung himself, allthough I can't find any reports of this, the other Anthony Etough I had not seen, but he must fit in somewhere, I believe that anyone with this name, however spelt, is related......it is just proving it !!............Regards Del.
