My advice is to sign up for genetic family testing as the results can be fascinating.  I look very like my grandmother and DNA testing has shown that DNA of the family is now most common  in Estonia/Lithuania and Poland.

Which mtDNA haplogroup do you belong to, if you'll pardon my curiosity? My wife is U4, or as Bryan Sykes of Oxford Ancestry calls it, "Ulrike", which in the British context suggests Scandinavian Viking ancestry. U4 is common in the Baltic countries and eastern Europe.

It wasn't myself who got tested but my dads cousin in the US I think they are trying to persuade me to get tested as well as we never left the west of Scotland area and can trace all branches of family back.  Their is Ulrike on my mums side (her family from North-East coast).
