James Thomas
« on: Thursday 02 August 12 11:38 BST (UK) »
re: James Thomas b.1878 father of Joseph Hugh Thomas b.1908.
Family info, confirmed in 1911 census, shows James living in Ardwick, Manchester

I am trying to trace his parents who I believe could be Joseph Thomas and Mary Thomas (possibly nee Davies) both born in 1853 in Montgomeryshire – 1881 Census. Can’t find any record of their marriage

James is shown as the son of a Joseph and Sarah Thomas in 1881.

Thanks for confirming this. I had found this link am trying to trace further information about his parents, especially their marriage. Would be delighted if you could throw any light on this. When I put in Sarah Thomas it comes up with Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, Wales and also suggests she could be Sarah Davies. I'm very new to researching info and am unsure when to accept that info could be correct if I can't verify it from another source. Thought if I found a record of their marriage it might help!

Whilst I can't find Joseph and Sarah in 1871,they could well be the Joseph Thomas and Sarah Davies who married in 1870.Free BMD gives the marriage as taking place in the Newtown District of Montgomeryshire in the Oct/Nov/Dec quarter of 1870,Volume 11 b,Page 388.

Have you seen this Tree on Ancestry?
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0pcc/

There seems to be more info on the family of Sarah Davies than Joseph Thomas.

Thanks once again for time taken to help and info provided.

After receiving your info re marriage between Joseph and Sarah I decided to amend Sarah on my tree to Sarah Davies and Ancestry then sent some possible links that took me to the same source.

As a newcomer the help you have given me is greatly appreciated. I doubt I would have tracked down the marriage info for myself

Now looking at the Joseph Thomas with the Davies family in 1871,he is given as born in New Mills Montgomeryshire.I have just been on the phone to my local expert on Montgomeryshire and he says you should not rule out this Joseph Thomas given as born in Manafon in Montgomeryshire in c 1853,in the 1861 Census-RG9/4252/60/8.

Apparently New Mills and Manafon are virtually the same place.

Also there is a very interesting Tree associated with the 1861 Census entry;
