Hello,

would the marriage certificate not just show the places of residence of the spouses - not particularly origins or parental addresses?  (I'm not sure though!)

Is there an occupation for Robert?

The problem is 'Wexford' - is that somewhere in County Wexford or the town ?
You need to know the name of the parish he was baptized in to search registers. That's why I suggested the online option...even though that's not fully available yet

Which Dublin parish was Patrick married in ?  I didn't see the marriage on IrishGenealogy

There's doesn't seem to be any Robert Deegan on Griffith's valuation, but there are other Deegans. One near Enniscorthy, most of the other listings seem to relate to a Jane Deegan in the civil parish of Ambrosetown.

see : Deegan entries, Griffiths

re Heywood's post - often current residence for Parents in RC marriages in Dublin city, and usually just the name of the nearest large town if the location was outside Dublin.

I dont think the parents were present at the wedding and it has an added note on the bottom of the cert .I also got some of Patricks childrens birth certs and there is no Deegans on there as sponsors,so I can assume he moved to Dublin on his own

I have Patricks birth in Wexford  estimated about 1860 and marriage in Dublin 1888,any ideas as to where to look for him in between .He was a baker by trade ,thats all I really know about him

sorry - missed the 'look for him in between' bit...

Unless he ran his own business and appears in a directory, or had a brush with the legal system there may not be much to find between his baptism and marriage.

Maybe as a witness or godparent on family baptisms or marriages ?

Directories are the way to check for bakeries...the problem is they only include the larger towns, and show just the business owner - so if Robert was employed as a baker rather than running his own business he would not appear.

I think that I may have checked before.... but will have a another look

Are you sure Robert was alive at the time of the marriage ?
