Tournayholm location

I've read about Tournayholm but don't know where its precise location was.
Can anyone help, please?

If I google search it the chronicles (is that where you see it?) about the Armstrongs comes up and it says it is where the Kershope and Liddell waters meet.

I can't find Turnersholm on the old maps online but at least you can see where the waters meet below Newcastleton - and then you would have to play about and try older maps?

Hi,
I have a 1845 map and there is no village etc mentioned at the junction of the Kershope & Liddle, after Newcastletown there is only Dinnwiddie & Liddlebank and then you are into Northumberland.

It's very likely somewhere that has ceased to exist. That region has several of those, sadly!

I didn't read it as a village, it was a place, just a field perhaps

I'm hoping it was a jousting centre, Barbara. I know jousting was popular in medieval times, so wondered if it was a location for tournaments? A field would fit the bill.

Thanks Walter. I'm keen to try & find proof of tournaments held there in earlier centuries. At various stages through medieval history, tourneying was banned, but it still occurred. I think during bans, Carlisle may have had to desist, but am sure the odd rural centre would have persevered, regardless.
