Hi,

I need help yet again with my Hewitt family. I am looking for the family of John Hewitt born 1871 in Greenwich Kent & his wife Ellen born c1872. I have found John in 1891,living with his parents,John & Mary Ann in West Ham,Essex & then have been unable to trace him again until 1911. He must have married c1891 because in 1911 he is living with wife,Ellen in Roscoe St,West Ham with children;William G,aged 20,John,aged 18,Ellen M,aged 16,Walter H,aged 14,Alfred,aged 11,Minnie K,aged 9,Rose,aged 8,Ernest,aged 6,Jessie K,aged 4 & Francis A,aged 2.  I cannot trace them in 1901 & neither can I trace John's marriage.

Can anyone help me please.
Hello again  ..........Is this them  in 1901 census living at 103 looks like Victor Road west ham
Mary Ann Hewitt widow from norfolk age 69 shopkeeper/card dealer?   John Hewitt son aged 32 same trade details born west ham
Ronnie :)

Hi,

LM - I did see the marriage in Bethnal Green, and, like you, think it unlikely to be the correct couple. I would have to order the M/C to be certain.

Ronnie - I don't think that is my John in the 1901 census living in Victor Rd - although his mother was named Mary Ann,she was born in about 1845 & in Bricket Wood,Hertfordshire. John was born in Greenwich,Kent.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

So, if he is on 1891 as a single man and  son William shown as aged 10 on 1901, he must have married Minnie, ( if he did ), after the 1891 census

Hi,

Yes thanks so much - that is the one. Sorry I put the incorrect year of birth as 1891 - but you found it anyway! He may have married Minnie Griffin in Hemel Hempstead Q4 1893 - a couple of years after the birth of son,William.

as you know we can't talk about the 1911 openely

I wonder if William born 1891 actually was the son of William, can't find a marriage to Minnie, were the catholic as I can't seem to find baptisms either

Hi,

I did wonder that but by 1911,William & Minnie, had been married for 18 yrs,had had 11 children,10 living & 1 dead. I think that they may have been the William Hewitt & Minnie Griffin who married in Q4 1893 in Hemel Hempstead,Herts, but I would need to order the M/C to verify that.

I don't think the family were catholic but I have also had trouble tracing their baptisms & even the registration details for,not only William & Minnie's children, but also other branches of the Hewitt family.
