a past relative in cradely heath area?
« on: Wednesday 25 May 05 15:53 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information about a squire in the cradely heath area whose name was (jeavons) fellowes( mid 1800's?).

Family tales have it that his daughter  fell in love with a man called Harris, who wasn't to her fathers liking and was told "dont darken my doorstep again"
That couple were my grandmothers (Amy Rose Harris) parents. I have searched everywhere and can find nothing. Perhaps someone could help further my search??

Do you have the names/details of this daughter, please.

There is a John Jeavons Fellows in Cradley on 1861 but we need other names to track them down..  Also name of her young man to place him in same place

hello, thanks for answering.
I have no other information, though my cousin tells me the father was James, but his memory is not so good.
I found a  marriage record of their daughter Amy Rose to John Frank Charles,  in 1900 in St; Lukes at Cradley Heath, but so far I havn't been able to find a copy of the actual cert. that may give the vital information. Any Ideas ?

The only way to solve this mystery is through Amy Rose Harris - by tracing her ancestry back to her grand parents.

We therefore need to know her birthplace and birth date and parents.
The marriage you referred to is listed on West Midlands BMD and you can order the cert from them. Hopefully this will give both her age and her father and we can get the ball rolling.

The best bet would be to get hold of her birth certificate which would then give her mother's married name and her maiden name which should be Fellowes if your information is correct.

At the moment we just have this:-

Marriage
John F Charles
Amy R Harris
St Luke Cradley Heath

Reference:-
Sandwell 20/3/333

This is the West Midlands reference number to be used if you order the cert from them

Superintendent Registrar
Sandwell Register Office
Highfields
High Street
West Bromwich
West Midlands

B70 8RJ

Payment to Superintendant Registrar  - £7 + a stamped self addressed envelope. Cheque to be crossed    '& Co'

I have looked for Amy Rose Charles on 1901 but haven't been able to spot her.
I will have another play around because she really should be showing up somewhere.  Did she stay in the Cradley area after marriage?

I have found an Amy Harris born 1876 in Cradley. Her father is William and mother Sarah . He is a Horse Nail Maker.

We need to match this up with her father on marriage. If no-one else replies to this request in the meantime send for the cert and then come back.

This is the birth reference. Cradley registers in Stourbridge

HARRIS, Amy  Birth Quarter ending March 1876
Stourbridge
6c
195

Keep a note of it until later when we may be able to match it up. May not be her, of course.

Good Luck, Tricia

That's it, brilliant!  ;) Back full circle to John Jeavons Fellows.

Bonjour, bonjour,

I nearly cried when I saw how much trouble you had been to on my behalf.
Iv'e been searching for over a year, to no avail, and then in just one night, everything is before me. I can't thank you enough!!
I am going to sit down with a coffee and digest all this information, as I am quite breathless. It's 25°C over here in France, so I am going to sit in the sun.
I hope to be in touch again soon. What a wonderful site Rootschat is. I shall tell everyone about it.
Once more thanks so much,
