I can only see one James Alexander Wood born Berwickshire ca.1875 i.e.

James Alexander Wood b.24/6/1874 Lauder, Berwickshire, son of Robert Wood and Betsy Taylor.

1881 Census - Whitton, Morebattle, Roxburghshire

Robert Wood    27    Ag. Lab.             b. Roxburgh, Roxburghshire
Betsy Wood     28                              b. Maxton, Roxburghshire
James Wood    6                                b. Lauder, Berwickshire
Jane Wood      3                                 b. Roxburgh, Roxburghshire
Joan Wood     8mos.                           b. Morebattle, Roxburghshire

I only have access to transcripts of the Scottish census so this is as much as I can tell you.

Unless you are viewing a copy of an original document online, everything else you view is a 'transcript' - i.e. the original records have been viewed and details have been taken down, indexed, etc. so the likes of you and I can view them.

However, when it comes to Scottish records not a great deal is 'free' and the further back you go the more difficult it can be.   I subscribe to 2 sites which have transcripts of the Scottish census.   To view the original pages I would have to go to Scotlands People website where you buy credits.

If you are only using 'free' sources to research your family then you'll find it will become extremely difficult.   (I found the birth of James on familysearch.org which is a free site - they only show births 1855 to 1875 and then before 1855 it is down to parish records but their coverage can be very hit and miss.   On the plus side you can view (via credits) copies of birth/marriage/death certificates on Scotlands People and their certificates include far more information than English ones do).
