I can see the family in Yorkshire and Durham - when was she in Liverpool?

There is a Thomas with her in 1871- her brother.

1851 has a Molrooney family from Sligo living in Knaresborough.
Bridget 42 yrs, Michael 16 yrs and Thomas 12 yrs.
This Thomas' age is similar to brother in 1871.

Looking at 1861 - it does look to be the right family. Have you seen these?

Did not know the Knaresborogh bit or the other people.......other than Thomas.

On the 1861 census she put Liverpool down as her place of birth but on the 1871 census she puts Sligo.

Also on the 1871 census is a Thomas (brother) aged 31.

I am almost certain Mary's father was called Mathew.

As I say, it's the Sligo piece I would love more information on but the Knaresborough info you have given me is really interesting.

Thanks.

Do you have details of them living in 1851 in Knaresborough from the census by any chance?

Many thanks

In order to search in Sligo, you really need more information.

1851 2283/192/18

Abbey Road Knaresborough

Bridget Molrooney head widow   42 yrs Farm servant b Sligo
Michael Molrooney son 16 yrs farm servant b Sligo
Thomas Molrooney son 12 yrs farm servant b Sligo

1861 3204/ 109/10

Grotto, Knaresborough

Bridget Malroney widow 63 yrs Laundress
Michael Malroney son 24 yrs Mason's labourer
Thos Malroney son 22 yrs Bleacher
James Firth grandson 5 yrs b Keitley Yorkshire

James was born Keighley I think in 1871 and there is a birth for James Mulrooney in 1856- don't know where 'Firth' comes from.
Bridget and sons are born 'Irland'.

As you can see Bridget's age varies but this is quite common.

1871, Bridget is at Spittalcrofts, Knaresborough aged 65 yrs.

Is Mary's marriage in 1853- Edward Milner and Mary Moran?

It would be best to check her father's name from her marriage certificate.

regards
heywood

You are very kind to do this for me.......thank you.

Unfortunately I don't have Edward and Mary's marriage certificate to check Mary's father name......

Is there any record of where Mary is in 1851?

Regards,

Russ

Not really -which is a puzzle as the others are around and it does seem to be her family. She could be in service somewhere but still can't see a likely person and of course her name could be mistranscribed.
Are you sure about her marriage? If that is the one in 1853, it would be a good idea to get the certificate to check her father's name. It may not really be much help in tracing the family in Ireland though.

There may be details too on the marriage cert- address/witnesses.
I think that Alice was born in Keighley and the nearest I can see is that in 1851 in Keighley, there are 2 Mary Mallarkeys entered on the census. They are together but aged 20 yrs and 16 yrs - both born County Sligo. There is nothing to show that the younger one is your Mary though.

Message for Heywood (hope this finds you),

The marriage in 1853 of Edward Milner to Mary Mulroney - after 8 years of looking I have managed to obtain a copy.......the certificate shows Edward Milner marrying a Mary Moran and her Father was called Mathew (Farmer).

Any ideas why she would put Moran on the certificate.
