Looking for Thomas Pilgrim **Completed**
« on: Saturday 18 August 12 12:47 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to trace Thomas Pilgrim, born c1815 in South Mimms.  In later life he was a Tailor, & married Rebecca Claydon in 1836 at St Martin in the Fields, London.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi

South Mimms is one of those places that is in Herts one minute then Middx the next. :)

Both refs that Keyboard posted are the correct ones, by the looks of it. The family are in Hendon but Thomas is indexed as Pelgwin in 51 were his age is 45 & his place of birth looks like Middx Mimmins !! Indexed as Pilgram in 1841 with an age of 35 making his birth c1806.

There is this baptism in St Giles, South Mimms for Thomas PilgrAm, 30 June 1805, parents William & Sarah.

I can't see any other children baptised to William & Sarah in Mimms.

Hope this helps & if you need any more just shout.

Hi all, firstly thanks Maddie for letting at least me know that Souh Mimms can be or was in both Middx and Herts! As I work in South Mimms I am intrigued as to where Hertford ended and Middlesex began? Also in 1841 census ref HO107/ 657/ 5/25/ 5 is a William Pilgriam b c 1821 Middx also in Hendon area.

Hi

Have a look at the South Mimms page on Genealogy in Herts, I think Chris Reynolds can explain better than I. :D I still don't understand it. ;) Funny thing is North Mimms seems to have always been in Herts.

There's quite a few other Pilgrim's in South Mimms with parents Thomas & Sarah round about 1810/20.

Yep, that William Pilgram is son of Thomas & Sarah, baptised 6th Aug 1820 South Mimms.

Must be related to William & Sarah.

I am beginning to wonder if in fact Thomas was actually born to Thomas & Sarah & the name of his father being William is an error in the record book.

I cannot find any mention of a William Pilgram at all & yet there is plenty for Thomas & Sarah, including land tax records in South Mimms & they are both on the 1851 in Chipping Barnet.

Thomas married Sarah Whitbread Webb in St Giles South Mimms on 11th Aug 1804. Sarah was a minor & married with the permission of her natural father Plantin ? Webb. The first child baptised to them is a John Pilgram 28 Sept 1806, plenty of time between the marriage & the birth of John to have had Thomas. ???

Would appreciate others thoughts on this if possible. :-\
