Hi, thanks to everyone for your help.

1pds - yes, that looks like him - seems to tie up with all the other information I know about the family.

Maddie - thanks for clearing up my confusion about South Mimms.  I was beginning to wonder if I was going mad!  I think you're right about Thomas' parents being Thomas & Sarah, & that William was an incorrect entry.  "My" Thomas christened his eldest daughter Sarah, & his eldest son Thomas, then his second son William.  Maybe his father's full name was Thomas William?

I've found lots of entries on Ancestry for a Thomas & Sarah Pilgrim having children christened in South Mimms, but the records on there don't start until 1812!

Hi Lady N

Glad I could help,  :) Have a look at LMA records, London England BMD's 1538-1812. More Pilgram bapts on there, also the one for Thomas to William & Sarah in South Mimms. :-\

Now here's a confusion.

Ancestry records provide christening record for Thomas Pilgrim to William & Sarah Pilgrim on 30th June 1805 in South Mimms, who I'd decided was "my" Thomas, but with his father's surname incorrectly transcribed.

But I also find a record for Thomas Pilgrim, parents Thomas & Sarah Pilgrim, baptised at the Uxbridge Society of Friends in Hillingdon, Middlesex (about 20 - 30 miles from South Mimms according to google maps) ALSO on 30th June 1805!!!!  Can't see any further baptisms to Thomas & Sarah Pilgrim at this church - maybe they got him done a second time on the same day because they were concerned that if his father's name was wrong on the first baptism it wouldn't "take"?

Or what are the chances of it being a totally different person?  Can't see any other likely candidates in Ancestry census.

Thoughts anyone? ???

Hi

I see what you mean, !! I found the baptism at Hillingdon for the other Thomas & like yourself can't find a matching family in the census.

The Uxbridge Soc of Friends were Quakers, unfortunately I don't know anything about their religion so I'm wondering, if it is the same Thomas as at South Mimms could Sarah have been a Quaker & they had 2 baptisms for him. :-\

Thinking about it though, if that was the case surely it would have been the same with all the children. ???

A bit more research needed here I think.......

I have a friend who's done a lot of research on Quakers generally, so I'll get in touch with her & see if she has any ideas.
