William & Isabella Scott (Hawick, Scotland)
« on: Wednesday 22 August 12 13:17 BST (UK) »
Looking for information or descendants of William Scott (b abt1800) married Isabella Miller (b abt 1811) in 1836 in Hawick, Scotland. William was a Iron/White/Blacksmith in Hawick. Emigrated to Australia in 1851 on ship 'Albatross' with children Joseph, Helen. Margaret. They also had other children that previously died in Hawick:- George x 3, Mary & Isabella. They lived in Portland Estate South Australia. We think William's parent's were Joseph and Margaret (nee Scott). Joseph owned a Iron/Blacksmith business in Sandbed called Joseph Scott & Sons. Trying to find out if our William is definately the son of this Joseph. We have veiwed a will that lists a William from Aust. Joseph also had other children George, Jane & Joseph. Isabella's parent's were George and Helen(nee Thomson).
Any help would be appreciated,
Deb

Unfortunately, marriage is before the start of official registration in Scotland from 1855 and will only show in the Old Parish Registers, which are normally (not always) no more than a single line entry.

I am going to move this for you over to Roxburghshire so that hopefully you may get some local help.

Hi Thanks everyone.
I am a member of SP and have found marriage cert of William & Isabella in 1836. I also found marriage of Joseph & Margaret 5 Jan 1775 in Wilton. Also listed were births of Joseph & Margaret's children, Joseph, George & Jane but no record for William.
On George's will 1851 William was listed as late Smith in Hawick. Would this mean this William has died or because he know longer works and lives in Hawick (our William moving to Aust). All other names and details seem relevant to our family.
William and Isabella were listed in 1841 & 1851 census as living in Howgate.

Same names but different years. Maybe you can help me anyway?  Like you I have a William Scott marrying an Isabella Miller. The problem is my William Scott was born to William Scott and Jane Hogg in 1851 in Lilliesleaf, Roxbourghshire and my Isabella Miller was born about 1850 to James Miller and Euphemia Wintrop.

Does she/he show up in your research of the Scotts and Millers?

Thanking you in advance.
