Power/Ward
« on: Monday 27 August 12 14:08 BST (UK) »
My grandparents travelled around Eire, Grandfather Charles was a horsedealer. In the late 1904's charles moved to Birmingham England, his wife Kathleen known as Ellen stayed in a caravan in Turenure. When she did eventually move to England she moved into a house and as far as I know never return to the caravan life. I have been told Power is not a traveller name! As I am getting on in age now there is a lack information. So if there are any Power/ Ward from Wexford/Enniscorthy/Dublin areas I would be grateful for any input.  ;D

Murrell; Just marking this with my interest  .....

I'm undoubtedly past my best for tonight () but shall return to this later on, tomorrow. Certainly so if ye respond by then.

It's the Birmingham Ward mention that's caught my eye. Probably nothing, of course. But, it's caused a blip on my radar  ;)

Hello Steve G. Ward is my grandmothers maiden name. the Birmingham connection was that Charles moved there for work. having previously been a hosre dealer moving around Eire.
When grandma moved to England she stayed in Liverpool, not sure at what point she moved onto Birminham or if Charles moved to Liverpool. I was told in Ireland Ward is a traveller name.

Hi Steve G

Bloody classic!  ;D

Okay. Just got home and have to feed the creatures. Then, I'll crack open my FTM and shall delve into this. Only, yes; Ward is an Irish Traveller name. And I have a passing association with a Ward from Birmingham.

 Curious .....

When grandma moved to England she stayed in Liverpool

Many of them did. I guess they disembarked there and got on with it, being there.

Others, notably, shot out like satellites to all corners. I've seen this all before.

Just this suggestion of Irish Wards heading for Brum. Have ye any dates, please? Only, I now see I have a George Ward. Estimated to have been born around 1905. God knows where.

He is father to James Henry Ward. (Mother was a Yapp ~ but, aren't all women?  ;)) James was born in 1924. I have his birth certificate

Interestingly ~ if not a little scarily ~ I also have a record of one Thomas Peter Ward. Apparrently much the same vintage as James.  He had a daughter, Denise.  She married James' son! See? Durdy! We have that suspicion of cousins marrying again. See? Extremely 'Irish Gypsy'.

Poor Denise is no more. But, her husband is alive and well and fishing for bream. So, I can't mention him publicly. But, if it helps at all, I can tell ye that he's now fifty eight.

Any of that throwing out a hint of possibility? Sounds like I have to lots of Ward in Brum, at a given time. Could any of yours have been linked?
