Staff Records from the Tower of London
« on: Wednesday 29 August 12 14:14 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if records have been kept of staff at the Tower of London?

Family legend has my ggg grandfather as a soldier at the Tower of London.

He was George Duncan McDonald.  I'm not sure of his birth and death dates.  I know his son, also George Duncan was born in 1825, he too being a soldier, serving from 1841-1857.

Cheers,
Alison  :D

MODIFY: After further consultation with my mother, it seems I have my George Duncans mixed up.  It is George jnr.  Apparently he worked in the Armoury there.
We all know about family stories, some based in truth, some complete fancy.
Hopefully someone can shed some light for me.

Hi

The regiment of the Royal Fusiliers served at the Tower of London

Soldiers records are held at The National Archives (copies on Findmypast).

The Board of Ordnance (subdivisions - Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers) had its headquarters in the Tower until 1855 so it could also be engineers or artillery.
