William SANDS b 1840, Manchester
« on: Thursday 30 August 12 19:19 BST (UK) »
William Sands married Rosanna McKervey on 11/9/1860 in Manchester.  On the wedding certificate William's age is given as 20 (making his DoB circa 1840).  His father is given as James Sands, a labourer.

I can find a William Sands b 1840 on FreeBMD.  Can anyone see the name of his mother or father anywhere?

Many thanks!

Perhaps he lied about his age!

There is a William Sands born in the Manchester Reg. Dist. in the March Qtr of 1838 (vol. 20 page 351).....

Possible of course, but that William Sands would appear to be the son of Joseph and Catherine Sands in 1841/51?

Thanks The Mc, I initially thought William's parents were Joseph and Catherine and he had been born in 1838 - before I ordered the marriage certificate and discovered William's father was called James (not Joseph).  I then found a William born in Chorlton in 1840 which ties in with William's age on the marriage cert.

I think Keyboard86 is right about the William b 1838 - he is the son of Joseph and Catherine, his father is not James...

I guess my question is:  Can anyone see William Sands, b 1840, Chorlton, Manchester and if so, who are his parents?

 ???

Looked at this when you first posted, but my tree stops at William too. Are you sure it was def "James" on the certificate?  Cannot find a William with a father called James in the various census.  What was his father's occupation?

Hello again MasterHatter!

The marriage certificate gives the following information:

William Sands, aged 20, Bachelor, Mechanic (fitter), 52 Owen Street Hulme, Father: James Sands, Labourer

Rosanna McKervey, age 22, Spinster, 39 Owen Street Hulme, Father: Daniel McKervey (deceased), Engineer (Locomotive)

I can find a William Sands born 1840 on FreeBMD, I might send away for the certificate if I don't get some confirmation via RootsChat.

PS: I've sent you a PM
