Gilmaney

I am new to this site and am just beginning the process of compiling my family tree.  I have quickly noticed that my paternal grandmother's surname of Gilmaney seems to be very unusual and I would be very interested to hear from anyone with any connection to this name or who can explain its origins etc.  it appears to be centred around a small area of Durham
