England to India & Back to England

Are there any records of british people going to India and coming back from India?

My gr-grandfather, Thomas Shorter was a butler for someone (a Duke has been told) and had travelled with his employer to India.

Is there anyway of finding this out?  It would have been between the years 1901 and 1907.
