There was a thread about wills on the Sussex board recently which may help
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=760252.0

Thanks for that. I knew there were SFHG publications online but I wasn't sure of the web address.

Hello,

Is it possible to advise what informaton there is in Volume 33 on the Pelland family.  I believe that pages 44, 49 and 88 are particularly relevant.

Thanks,

Mike Clifford

Hello Mike

Sorry for the delay.  Information on Pelland family as follows:

Paragraph 169 (pp 44/5)
JOHN PELLAND.  Died [blank].

Edward Pelland.  B.843.  Died 19 Sept. 42 Eliz.
Messuage and lands etc., belonging to it in Chittingly, 26s. 8d.
Messuage and lands etc., belonging to it in Ripe held of honor of Aquila by kts. service, 20s.  Messuage in parish of St. Pancras and 1/2 of 1/3 of the advowson of the rectory of little Hamptonett held of m. of Estgrenwich, 5s.

Lands in *Lotheley held of Thomas Pelham esq. of his m. of Foxhunt, 10d.  Messuage and lands etc., belonging to it in Hellingly held in chief, 33s. 4d.

Paragraph 183 (pg 49)
EDWARD PELLAND.  Died 12 Sept. 30 Eliz.

Edward Pelland son and heir.  B. 842. Died 12 Dec.
Messuage or cottage and lands in Lindfeild called Plomer deane and Northlandes containing 30 acres held in soccage in chief, 20s.  Messuage granary and lands called Briggers alias Bridgers and Ashurst in Coockfeild containing 70 acres land and annual rent of 12d. from a meadow called Ashurst Meade held in soccage in chief, 20s.

Paragraph 183a. (pg 49)
EDWARD PELLAND.  [MS.]

Edward Pelland.
Messuage and lands in Firle containing 20 acres land held of Q. of her honor of Aquila by kts. service, 20s.

Paragraph 97 (pg 22)
RICHARD PELLETT esq.  Died 21 Jan. 29 Eliz.

Benjamin Pellett son.  B. 845.
M. or Charleton alias Charlton Ashurst next Stenninge in Ashurst and Steninge held in chief, £40 6s. 8d.

There is also a reference in paragraph 28 (pg 10)
STEPHEN BOORD father.  Died 20 Aug. 9 Eliz.

George Boord son.  A. 37.  B. 148.
Add. et Var...Poyntills in Ashurst held of Richard Pellett gen. of m. of Charlton 2., worth 40s.

Given the different spelling, I'm  not sure if the references in paragraphs 97 & 28 are the same family.  In the index Richard is listed under PELLAND, but Benjamin is under PELLETT.

Page 88 is the index page listing Pelland references.

Abbreviations/markings as follows:

A=Sussex Record Society, Vol. iii.  B=Sussex Record Society, Vol. xiv.  Kt = Knight.  K. = King.  Q. = Queen.  M. = Manor.
* = Sic. M.S.

Punctuation and spelling as in original.

Hope it helps.

Hello Lady N,

That is indeed very helpful.  Thank you for your assistance.  I now have fairly good records for this branch of the Pellands back to ca1500 and would be pleased to share them with any one who is interested in this family.

The name Pelland / Pellond / Pellam (as distinct from Pelham) does not seem to appear in Sussex earlier than that and I have evidence suggesting that perhaps they originated in Kent in the Goudhurst / Tenterden area.

I'd welcome information that would help to clarify these relationships which I am investigating on behalf of a neighbour.

Mike

I would be interested in any licence information on the marriage of Francis Philip Bedingfeld & Mary Delecia Rose at Hastings on 15th March 1815. I am not sure of this would fall under Lewes or Chichester.

Thanks

Edward

I know this is an old post, but I am researching Francis Philip BEDINGFELD and Mary Delitia ? Delicia ROSE. Would love to get any info you may have to help me on my quest researching there lines. Thanks
