« on: Friday 07 September 12 01:55 BST (UK) »
Looking for information on Mary Ross born 1820-06-22 in Scotland probably Isle of Skye and according to the cenus she immigrated in 1840 to Prince Edward Island, Canada.   Mary Ross married James McDonald from Uachadar of Gramsdale, South Uist. Mary Ross and James McDonald were married on April 25/1854 by the Baptist Minister John Shaw on PEI. She appears in the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 census in lot 59 on the Whim Road and had one daugther Catherine McDonald born 1855.   Did try familysearch and Scotland People but no luck yet. Trying to link the Ross connection.
Regards, Jane

Hi Jane

Closest I can see on IGI is this one https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XBMG-TP2  One year ealier in 1819, but the rest matches.

Is the date you have for Mary's birth from a census or a bible/document? Sometimes, birth details can get confused over time.

Hard to confirm further really if you think she left Scotland before 1841 and the census that year.

Monica

Hi Monica

Thanks for your reply and I will see if this is Mary Ross.  I got her age from the census so it could have changed.  It's possible she could have been in Scotland for the 1841 census.

thanks, Jane

Mary Ross the daughter of Alex Ross and Elizabeth Falconer married a John Paterson and I think she appears in the 1841 census for Scotland.  Saw several trees so think that's probably her.  Dates of birth were very close just one year apart.  Thanks MonicaL for your help and I'll keep on rooting.

Found some more information that she immigrated to Prince Edward Island with her brother-in-laws family William MacKinnon's family from Uig and William MacKinnon died on PEI in 1841. Possible sister is Effy Ross widow of William MacKinnon. Some DNA matches with Ross around Kilmuir area of Skye but nothing confirmed.
