Full Stop - William McGUINESS
« on: Saturday 08 September 12 11:26 BST (UK) »
Here I am again,
I'm still hoping someone out there can fill me in with some details on my family name
 William McGuiness
The last details are on his son's death certificate namely " William McGuiness "he died in 1906
was married in 1870 in Victoria Creek New South Wales. He married Mary Hancock. I have both his marriage & death certificates, & there is no mention of his father's details, only his name as McGuiness .
I now have the spelling listed as McGuinness.
I know I haven't given you very much to go on, but here's hoping someone may have something on him.
 Thanks
Pom Pet

Thanks for the prompt reply, BUT, I'm sorry I don't know any more details of either McGuinness or Mary Hancock . I know it makes it very difficult to follow up the history of the family. I feel like I have hit a brick wall.
Thanks for your reply

Hi Pompet

My suggestion would be to post on the Australia or the Immigrants & Emigrants boards, someone may have access to passenger lists.  You say you have their marriage certificate. Does it give their ages and are there any witnesses?

I'm trying to clarify this.   :)

It's the father of William McGuiness who married Mary Hancock in 1870 for whom you are wanting information?

Can you post any additional details ftom the certificates you have? You never know what snippet of information will help someone come across something to help you.

If you would like this moved to the Australian Board, we can ask a Moderator to move it.

Hi deeiluka,
Yes, it is the FATHER of William McGuinness ( married to Mary Hancock) that I'm looking for.
The marriage certificate states that they were married in the residence of the brides home , in Victoria Creek by the Officiating Minister Bertie Boyce.in the presence of William Hancock & Ellen Hancock (presumably brides brother & sister) The wedding certificate was signed with a X for both parties, & witnessed by the minister Bertie Boyce.
Yes, by all means, if you think it would help, You could put it on the Australian Board, I don't understand a lot about the means of getting information back from  the Australian Board.
.
I also have information on William's death certificate which states his father as McGUINNESS (which doesn't help)Mother's name " not known"
If I could find William's birth certificate , that should help, but no such luck.
Thanks so much for your help.

Does it give William's age on his death certificate, Pompet?

Hi pompet,

(Francis) Bertie Boyce was the Anglican minister in the Bathurst area and the marriages he performed should be recorded in the church registers.  These have been microfilmed by the SAG  http://catalogue.sag.org.au/fullRecord.jsp?recnoListAttr=recnoList&recno=43050

They are also available at the National Library of Australia and the NSW State Library.  Not sure if this link will work:
http://www.worldcat.org/title/registers/oclc/225739063&referer=brief_results

They are not currently available to hire from the LDS.

The church register should show the bride and groom's parents' names.

William's death certificate should tell you where he was born at least.

In April 1870 my great grandfather  William McGuinness married Mary Hancock in Victoria Creek New South Wales.William was a farmer in Victoria Creek I have his marriage certificate, but it doesn't state his father's name.
maybe he was adopted or orphaned, but I would like to find out from which country his father came from, if anyone can come up with ideas, I would be grateful.
