Can anybody please tell me if there are any connection between William Kirtland b.1805 —Charlton, Oxfordshire, England who was living at Lambeth in 1881, whose son I think was Thomas James Kirtland b. by Sophia Reeves in 1846 at Summertown/Oxford St Giles and William Kirtland b. 1828 by Rebecca at Islington and what other children W & Sophia had.

Hi

Have I got this right

William Kirtland born 1805 Oxford was married to Sophia and in 1846 they had a son called Thomas James in Oxford

William born 1805 was living in Lambeth in 1881

You are looking for a connection to a William Kirtland born in 1828 in Islington

If that is correct - where were William & Sophia living in 1841 and did they have a son called William aged around 13 at that time?

Have you checked the 1851 census?  Living in Oxford and they had a 15yr old son William b Cheshunt Bucks

Sophia was 67 in 1881 so born 1814.  Unless she was a second wife - she would have been 14yrs old in 1828

1851 birthyear is 1816

I do not know.
I have to go out shortly (its 6.20 am local)  when I return I shall consult the notes I have taken  and perhaps expand upon my lack of understanding of this family.
Best wishes

Hi Trish1120 :) Thank you for your reply.

You asked:
Are you descended from Wm c 1828, Islington, with Wife Rebecca?

Not as far as I know. I have been told that my mother's line of my family is descended from Wm. K. b. Charlton on Ottmoor 1797.

I have some information on numerous other Kirtland's which may be fairly closely related. This has stemmed from a keen interest in Thomas James K. b. Summertown 1846 who was apparently a colourful person and who my research was primarily geared toward. I am trying to consolidate what I have and would be interested to communicate with others with an interest in this family. As the Kirtland's in southern England seem to be fairly tightly grouped, I thought that it wouldn't be too difficult to extend my knowledge of the family tree.

Well I do ;D
Father James.

William Willett Kirtland Married Rebecca Kiffen, 07 March 1852
Father James, a Shoemaker

1851 Census William is with his Parents James/Mary in Islington,
James is born c County.

So I dont think there is any connection to the Oxfordshire Kirtlands at this stage.
1851 Census James is born c Holloway, Middlesex.
