Hi Milly,

I've been doing the same as you- going through the various areas where the family (the Boyles) were in 1851.
There are such a lot of Biggin/Biggins around aren't there!

I tried West John Lane in 1851 but Rebecca may have only been there in 1857 so not much use. Looking at a map, that and Bramall Lane where the family were and Brookhill seem to be fairly close together. They are in Sheffield (South?)district, I think rather than Ecclesall Bierlow. Although I am not familiar with the area.

Wendy,
I meant baby John's death certificate (and birth certificate) for any addresses which were 1846 though. Again though (as with the baptism in 1857) these years are a bit far away from 1851 :-\  I know you have no details re John.

1861 - Selina Webster  (Rebecca's sister) was living in West John Street so perhaps that is where the baptismal address comes from.

PS - just realised getting my street and lane mixed up  ::)

There is this baptism on the Sheffield site - for baby Thomas as seen in the 1851 census.
Interestingly they baptised him late too.... But not on the same day as James was done  (he was two months later).

Ludlam, Thomas (of West John Lane)
Born 1847-03-08
Baptised January 1, 1857, by A. Hall at St Georges Church, Brookhill.
Parents: Hannah & Thomas (Table Knife Cuttler).

and sister Mary done on the same day
Ludlam, Mary (of West John Lane)
Born 1848-11-04
Baptised January 1, 1857, by A. Hall at St Georges Church, Brookhill.
Parents: Hannah & Thomas (Table Knife Cuttler).

Not sure what use this info is yet but suggests a pattern of some kind ;D

Interesting - that the age gap is almost the same.

Perhaps there was a religious mission around the time and they decided to go ahead. :)

Maybe ;D

Just seen there is a third child baptised that day too - Henry Ludlam
Born 1856-02-08
Baptised January 1, 1857

Still almost a year before the baptism though.

Perhaps Rebecca went to the baptism and got collared by the vicar ;D

Hi Wendy,
I'm just rereading this:

Hello,
welcome to rootschat  :)

Do you have details re Rebecca e.g census in 1861?

Free BMD has a marriage for a John Biggins in Sheffield 1859. Possible spouses, Sarah or a Mary Ann.

1861 then has a John Biggins -born Limerick with a wife Mary.

Free BMD has a death for John Biggins in Sheffield - December quarter 1871.

Yes, but unfortunately it's not the right John Biggins.   I've been following him through the census records and although his father was James their name usually is only Biggin with no s and also he married a Jane when mine was marrying Rebecca.  Thanks for looking though.
Wendy

Is this the John (married to Mary in 1861) who marries Jane?
1871 he is born Dublin but I can't see him in 1881.
He is a cutler.
Could he be the one who dies 1871?

Heywood - the one who marries Jane was born Woodseats, Norton, Derbyshire (baptised St James Church Norton) father James and mother Ann (they are still on my tree as my John's parents and siblings, I haven't deleted them yet) but John Biggin 1826 the real son of James and Ann married either Jane Hutchinson in 1845 or Jane Hannah in 1847 (more likely to be the latter since it was Ecclesall Bierlow).   He stayed with Jane until his death in 1871 and was buried St Mary's, Bramall Lane.

Could be or was persuaded by her sister Selina Webster who was ordained as a Deacon in the Mormon Church in March of 1851!

How interesting.

Or...
Perhaps they were baptised CofE to stop Selina trying to recruit them.
