Hello everyone,

just reading through this- well done aghadowey for this information, you must be thrilled, georgia1964.

If you do as aghadowey says and either click on the links or copy and paste them into the browser bar.

I often find it good to write the information down with a bit more space than internet pages so you can see names and relationships.

Also as ruskie says- look for accident reports and obituaries in newspapers re James. I have seen some really good information from these - that was in Pennsylvania though not RI but hopefully it would be the same.

good luck
heywood

All the information I've provided is from census and vital records (births, deaths and marriages and most of the certificates are available to view online).

The LDS site was giving bother yesterday but was now able to view the image for this event-
Having difficulty finding Bridget in census records after 1880 and this might be the reason (from www.familysearch.org)-
Bridget Gallagher, born c1847, parents- Thomas Dean & Hanora Reddy, married 29 Dec.1894 Providence, R.I. to Michael Thuot.
There seems little doubt that this is your Bridget (Dean) Gallagher's second marriage- groom's surname hard to read could be Thout or Thust?- same parents, locations, etc. Perhaps he died soon after or they split up and she went back to using Gallagher surname.

aghadowey,
anyway you can find any info on margaret v gallagher and antone sousa as to when they resided in fall river, and when they moved to rhode island,i have antones death cert,he died 7-11-1936 he is buried in st ann's cemetary in cranston rhode island,as for bridget i know she is buried out here in rhode island but where are her other children buried, you listed daughrer alice(ellen),born 1876,daughter mary she was 19 in the 1880 census, ann was 13,nora,9,terrence jr,6,thomas 5,kate was 1 month,it would be intereing to know if these people every married or where they are buried, and back then did they have photos? also is it only ireland that you are able to search

There is LOTS of information available online such as I already found but you can search the same sites yourself to find more family details. I'm not sure exactly where you live but the Fall River Library is fantastic as is Providence Library (at least they were when I lived there).

Here's the genealogy section for Fall River's website- to find addresses and try to see when your relatives lived there check the city directories (although only head of household will usually be listed so you may not find everyone, especially in early years). They also have lots of old newspapers (the obituary index sounds particularily promising) but make sure you have an idea of dates when checking for events to make the searching easier.

Here's Providence's website. I tended to use RI Genealogical Library more often (and parking was better in East Providence) but I was doing a different sort of genealogical research.

I did find the following earlier but as I said, you can also find this information online.

Michael Hassett (age 52) married (27 Aug.1899 Warren, R.I.) to Annie Gallagher Conley, daughter of Terrence & Bridget Gallagher. Wonder if she could possible be the 'Ann Hazzard' mentioned by you earlier.

Then, Anna Veronica Hassett, age 73, died 20 May 1943 Pawtucket, R.I.- spouse MIchael Hassett and parents listed as Patrick Gallagher & Bridget Dean.

Also found Michael & Ann in a census-

You need to search for and look at every available record but they are not alway accurate. I believe 'Patrick Gallagher' on Annie's death certificate is an error (probably by the informant). The same sort of problem was mentioned earlier with James/Joseph Murphy listed on certificates. Mistakes do happen.

Your grandfather, from what I have seen (links already posted), was not from the Portuguese mainland but from the Azores- Terceira Island in particular. R.I./Mass. had a large population of immigrants from the Azores.
